Just started on my '69 dream resto after 15 years. Rebuilt both carb and petcock and the bike cranked the first time!--However, my petcock is leaking the same way. I ssaw an old post on this forum from 2008. The guy had a great solution and had fabbed up a more modern and useful petcock system.
Does anyone know who and where this guy is and where I might get hold of one of those??

modern petcock on ebay

Post by dlobby12 » Wed May 30, 2012 4:55 pm

a guy on eBay is selling one that is off a Harley . It comes with a three hole adapter so it should work. I ordered one so I'll let you know how it works out.

Just rebuilt petcock on my 305 dream, and fuel is leaking into the carb.
I just put my petcock back together and had fuel leaking through the bowl out to the carb line. I pulled the bowl and found it was leaking around the mounting screws. I put Seals-All sealant (resistant to gas and most chemicals, at least that's what they claim) on the underside of the screw heads and washers and reassembled it and let it cure overnight. It's been sitting for 2 days with a quart of fuel in that side and no leak so far.

Read the subject line and thought your dog was peeing on the bike.

The petcock seal is dependent on very flat surfaces on both the valve body and the valve, which is the flat face on the handle. If either of those surfaces are pitted or otherwise damaged, they won't seal. I also like to put a little silicone grease on the seal when I install it. The other key component is the wavy spring that maintains pressure on the seal. If that is shot or missing, your valve will leak.

regards,
Rob

I think that guy's design is kind of primitive, so I made my own and am selling it on eBay as a competitor product. Notice the 90 degree filter. The other guys design has no filter.
