Fuel Flow Issues
Fuel Flow IssuesHey guys,
I am having some major fuel flow issues. I recently tore down the head to replace gaskets to fix an oil leak. I put the bike back together, and it runs great, except it seems to have some fuel flow issues. When I first crank it, it runs great for a mile or two, then it starts acting like it has run out of fuel and cuts out. After a while of sitting, it cranks right back up and repeats. The tank is full, the petcock is not blocked, I have brand new lines and filters on. When the carb has gas, it runs fine, but it doesn't seem to refill itself in time to keep running. The carbs were rebuilt right before I bought the bike last year, so I think something has just gotten in the bowl and is blocking flow, but I wanted to check before I take it apart again. Is there anything else I should be looking for? On another note, should I connect the nipple in the bottom of the carb (air) to anything? JG
----------- 67 CL77 Fuel Filters May be the ProblemI had a similiar problem. After much grief I found that the in-line filters (sometimes) caused enough restriction to keep the fuel from flowing, as it's only gravity that moves the fuel. I confirmed the diagnosis by installing clear fuel lines. Good luck.

Re: Fuel Flow Issues
Yes there is one thing to check. Your vents in the gas cap may be clogged. The cap does come apart and you will find air holes that get crusted over. I posted a thread on the subject a ways back. Rusty
Re: Fuel Flow IssuesI've been searching for a while, and can't find that post. Can you send me a link? Also, a few of the guys keep recommending to click on FAQ to find a post on the process to tune and start up a bike, but I can't find that either. When I click on FAQ, I only see questions about the site itself, and how to use/post on the website. Am I missing something? JG

I found my thread on these caps, actually in a thread by Vince Lupo. I'll talk you through a search. At the top of this forum page where you sign in/out, you will also see a search option. For keywords use air vent and for author use rustywrench, choose gas cap blues and then go to pg5. Hope this helps solve both issues. Also find the yellow menu on the left, FAQ, and choose the 5Th down and follow these instructions to the letter and they will not let you down. Rusty
Found it!Thanks for your help Rustywrench. I took it apart, cleaned it out, and now I have no flow issues at all. I never would've even thought to do that. Mad props and much obliged!
