I don't have the shocks in front of me, but could it be possible to thread the top of the shock and put a cap there for them? Could even toss the old seal underneith the screw down cap. ??? Don't see any reason for that though. Nobody sells a replacemnt shock we could use or modify and use from an atv or something?

That's exactly what I did with my late CL77 shocks. I made a fixture for my lathe so that I could machine off the crimp. I then threaded the shock body and made a sleeve nut to hold the innards in after reassembly.

I discovered later that this is exactly how the early CL77 shocks were made, before they moved to the slotted retaining ring.

As I said earlier I have been struggling to find time to complete these but I will find some seals and put them back together soon.

Very nice. I have access to a lathe but I don't think my machining skills are good enough to make threads like that!

I'm guessing that with some small changes most any crimped together shock could be restored this way.

hey, that's supurb. Now we need someone who is willing to do these for the guys. ;-) Wish I had a nice lathe. What would something like that be worth to perform for another restorer?

Guys

I love doing this stuff but it would be very difficult to make it viable to do as a service for others. Considering the amount of time it takes, you could buy a set of gold-plated titanium shocks made by HRC and save some money.

Seriously, the kick for me is about resurrecting something that would normally be thrown away. If any of you guys has psychiatric skills I would probably be locked up to keep normal citizens safe....

I'm happy to provide photos and details of my adventures in Honda restoration but I'm in no hurry to set up in business.
