I have a set of mufflers from Overlander in Australia. Fabulous quality - much better than the ones that are being supplied in the USA.
To clean out mufflers and pipes, I have used Sodium Hydroxide solution (very caustic so be careful). You can just fill up the pipes and leave for a while.
Yes - remove the chrome plate before welding. The chromer will do that for you if you work with them.

If that's all it takes, then I'll give some platers a call and see what they say. I have a very solid muffler that has lost most of its chrome. Should be a good candidate for a replate if it does not cost an arm and a leg. regards, Rob
