Hi,
Good the problem seemed to be solved with replacing the spark plug caps. If I were you I replaced the high tension wires and spark plug caps as a pair. Make sure the connection to the coils is flawless.
It’s always good to replace old spark plug caps and wires for new ones, no matter if these gave problems or not. Old spark plug caps are corroded and sometimes the resistance is short circuited. That causes a differences of resistance between both high tension circuits, and can lead to these kind of problems. The high tension circuit is a balanced circuit, and everything should be right.
Inlet and exhaust do not leak air ? I’m not concerned about the valves but air leaks in the inlet area and exhaust area. These should be air tight, no leaks of any kind.
The ignition system in combination with the AC loading capacity is the Achilles heel of these bikes, and can lead to frustration when encountering issue’s. Ed’s tuning recipe is a very good guide, but the parts in the ignition system are expected to be good (of course).
It’s also important to measure the power output of the AC dynamo to the battery with different rpm’s. The AC loading capacity must be high enough to maintain the surge for power from the coils, especially with high rpm’s.
