Dear Vince, You will find that the bike is over geared. You will at some stage have to go on the dyno to find where max torque and max HP is and do the gearing selection using those figures combined with top speed runs. All the best Jerry

Thanks Jerry -- we'll see what we come up with this week.

I can't remember, but is stock gearing 15 front and 30 rear, or is it 32 rear? Right now I have a 29 on the rear, but I also have 30, 32 and 34 tooth sprockets.

Just did a quick online search for NGK D6's and D10's, and the D10's don't seem to be available here in the US (UK sites are the only ones that are popping up). D6's are available, but I don't think D7's are.

I'll check with my local supplier and ask John about it, but if someone has alternate suggestions I'd appreciate it!

Vince, It's 15 and 30.

Thanks Tom - I had a feeling that's what it was. I'm considering asking John if we can jump up to the 32 tooth sprocket and see what happens. Having that 5th gear really changes things in ways that you can't imagine (all good ways, mind you!), and my gut is telling me to try the 32 tooth.

We will need to get a new chain though, and I'm having a bit of a time trying to find a good non-o ring chain, and one that is not 'heavy duty'. What is currently on the bike is a Tsubaki, and the Tsubaki 530 HQR's look pretty good as a replacement. I've heard that Renold makes good chains, but can't seem to find them here in the U.S, especially a non-o ring 530 one. The other kind I've seen that look interesting is Diamond, but I don't know anything about them (they seem to be more in the Harley domain). As well, not sure if the SuperHawk sprockets would accommodate a 520 chain? And if so, would that give any advantage over a 530 chain?

I'm trying to avoid going with a cheap chain like a DID, so if anyone has any good chain suggestions....

More developments -- things happen fast around here!

Just ordered 30 & 32 tooth rear sprockets and a 15 tooth front sprocket from Sprocket Specialists in 520 chain size, and a Tsubaki 520 chain. I confirmed the front sprocket interior dimension with Sprocket Specialists (as Honda made them in an 'early' and 'late' size), and we're fine in that regard. Road testing probably won't resume until next week -- stay tuned!

Vince,
I've done the 520 conversion on a couple of my bikes, and have been pleased with it! Less weight, less friction, and much easier to find a chain as all modern dirt bikes, and many street bikes are using the 520. A good hardened gold chain is the way to go IMHO
