1962 CB77 Restoration underway

Here is the headlight bucket on my '62. I compared it to 2 headlight buckets I had from a couple of '65 to '66 parts bikes. On my '62 there are threaded bungs brazed to the headlight bucket for the mounting bolts. On the other buckets it is a threaded nut welded to the assy.

I removed the oil filter cover and compared it to 2 other issues. My '62 is on the left, with no markings. The cover was redesigned with a larger ID and a corresponding redesigned left crankcase cover around CB77E-105234. This is from my parts book dated 2-'67.

Here is my kick side cover compared to a later issue cover in the top photo. They moved the clutch cable joint further forward. If you reference the bottom photo where the kick starter gear passes through you'll notice they reinforced the area, a little more "beef" to lessen the likelihood of cracking the cover.

thanks for the info Tom,I'll be coming back with more questions as my ca77 had several incorrect parts,(nothing too major).However I am in the process of a near restoration and would like to get it close to correct.....Jerry

Tom, rear brake pedal should be a bit shorter than the later bikes as well. It may also have an aluminum rear brake stay. Let us know what you find.

You're spot on with the brake pedal. The photo shows my '62 in the middle. The top one is a race kit pedal, 46500-268-810. The bottom one was in my parts bin from a later bike.

I checked my rear brake stay and it is steel, frame 24182. I also have another 1962 CB77, frame 21905 and it is steel also. The aluminum must have been earlier in the run.

Making more progress on the tear down. We're under blizzard warnings so I'm concentrating on snow removal at the moment.
