Hello,
Thanks for your email.

The first delivered VIN on this model was 100001 and the same for the engine
number.

So yes, It is a very early one!! :)

Kind Regards
Tim

This is a reply I got from DSS this am in response to a email I sent last night about this bike, so I guess it is the real deal and #15 in the production. :P

Ah, not enough coffee in the system yet this morning. I see further in my notes that with the first four years of the CB77's the first digit of the serial number corresponded to year. That would make yours a 1961 and thus first year of production. I'm confused however about the six digit serial number. I know I've seen 5 digit bikes before and upon searching the forum I see people posing questions about 5 digit bikes. Maybe Honda's numbering system wasn't set in stone that early in the game.

Interesting find.

According to Mr Silver's book (Bill not David...)

1961 CB77E 110001 - 11xxxx

1962 CB77E 210001 - 219791

1963 CB77E 310001 - 319222

1964 CB77E 400001 - 403838 and
CB77E 100001 - 109755

1965 - 7 CB77E 1000001 - 1056494

I think we are looking at an early 1964

Before anyone gets too excited, let's see what it really is. Can you post a picture of the front and rear brakes and the top of the transmission where the steel cover is? That would help a little to zero in on the year of production.

The numbers appear to indicate an early model, and if that is correct, then it will have a few parts that are different to most later builds

the vin #'s with the CB77E-********* etc. is the engine s/n not the frame, hence the "E"

see my previous extract from Bill Silver

1964 CB77E 400001 - 403838 and CB77E 100001 - 109755

From the pic, the bike does not have a SLS front brake, Oil separator tower or early speedo bracket.
