Fuel TypeRegular unleaded. No point in anything else. I mean, I've got plenty of alternates at my disposal, but what am I gonna do? Win a race? Against what? If I want to go fast, the CB77 will be staying in the garage. Really, when I ride this bike, it's not about performance, it's more about putting a smile on my face, and on those who take notice.
fuelLet me throw in some tidbits here.
100 LL will run just fine in most any motorcycle. It's main advantage is good long term storage characteristics, it doesn't dry up into jet plugging goo. I like to use it for winter storage. reg 87 works just fine if used regularly, meaning the bike is not left to sit for long periods. I believe the actuall compression of the CB/CL is somewhat less then 10-1 in spite of the early advertising. Factoid.... Almost any engine that can run on reg 87 without " pinging or detonation" will not have any performance increase by running higher octane, may actually decrease performance. fastjoe ret , certified honda , yamaha , HD mechanic / dealer , racer , pilot , aircraft owner / builder.
Fuel typeI have a hard time believing that these engines will not perform flawlessly on regular unleaded. In fact I would be a little cautious about using premium or octane additives. It has been my experience that unless an engine is ultra high performance coking or carbon can build up alot easier using anything but 87 octane fuel.
