Cable problems

Post by bonjour » Mon Oct 18, 2010 1:11 pm

Hello people,

I have trouble with routing my brake and clutch cable properly.

I have a little 'sports steer' (ja, sorry for my bad English) and I have levers of a Suzuki GS (old type) , the problem is that the cable's (both brake and clutch) , don't go nicely around the corner behind the headlight.

I don't have a nice solution for it, but I was thinking of something like the little bend thing the trottle cable has, before it enters the trottle twist. A bend like that, only then for the brake and clutch cable.

But I don't know if something like that exists ? I think something like that would solve my problem's, but I don't know if there are other ways of solving this problem.. ? So idea's are welcome !

Here's the pic. wich will make my problem clear : ( the cable is long enough, it's tight because of the sharp corner it has to make )

Hi Bonjour

My Triumph Daytona 955 has a metal cable guide on the clutch cable. It may be possible to buy an old cable and use the parts to make up a special cable for the Honda.

Here is an eBay link to one for sale.

Hi,

What's wrong with the original low bar tube ? (in dutch "stokstuurtje")
If fitting that kind of steering, there are no problems to solve.

I'd say ya do need a cable which is about 3 inches longer. ....lm

IMO if you intend keeping the Thruxton handlebar then you should look at routing a longer cable around in front of the instrument cluster and back down between the bucket and the top yoke; that's a nasty exit angle from the lever perch(es).

I'd attack it first by measuring the route for the clutch cable on full left-lock and the front brake cable on full right-lock, leaving enough space, at each lock, between the tighter cable and the instruments' binnacle to insert a finger in between.

Thruckers ('Thruxton' handlebar) and clip-ons usually present this sort of cable routing problem!

Might look at a CA77 Dream cable with the pre-bent end.
They are available in at least a couple different lengths. (44" & 52")
