Inner fork seals???Inner fork seals???I'm trying to replace the inner fork seals in my father's 1967 305 scrambler and I can't get the friggin things out. I took off the clip under the piston and I thought the piston would slide off. Guess not! Can some one out there give me some advise in how to do this. Thanks
inner fork sealsIf you have a 67, you most likely have aluminum sliders. On these models, the fork piston was pressed onto the fork rod.
Being a tool maker, I made an aluminum plug to fit inside the lower end of the fork rod with a shoulder that would catch on the end of the rod but also smaller than the OD of the rod, allwing the use of a three arm bearing puller on the piston. Once removed, you can then remove the remaining retaining rings as well as the upper aluminum guide bushing and then finally the seal as well as it's retaining nut. Any local machine shop or technical school sshould be able to fix you up with a plug as described. If you need any further description, feel free to email me. Gary '65 CL77 Owner
