Poll: Have you ever had a cable break while riding?

I was wondering if anyone's had a cable break on them before. Throttle, clutch, brake, etc. Just curious to get a feel for how often it happens. I always bring extras in any case. If so, how old was the cable when it did finally go?

Scott, I had a clutch cable break on my Norton years ago, no big deal just babied it home without stopping. I've also had a throttle cable break on a dirt bike deep in the woods, now that was an adventure, holding the cable end while wrestling the thing outta the woods. In both cases the cables appeared to be in good shape prior to letting go....................D

A few years back I bought a NOS front brake cable from Larry's cables for my 63 ca77. the wire itself shattered at the lever end as I was installing it. this was a 45 year old cable never installed. Larry was a little surprised and replaced it no problem. I'm still a little leery grabbing the front brake on that bike.

I broke a clutch cable one day early in this riding season on my 66cl77. I grabbed second to pass a tractor when it went about 30 miles from home. I limped into a friends house who has a MC table. There I removed the cable and conned a ride home for a replacement. Those work tables sure are sweet. I now have a cable lube system and don't put up with old stiff cables any more. Rw

I had the clutch cable break on my Moto Guzzi when it was relatively new. That bike had so much low down torque I was able to start the bike on the starer in 1st gear and it was a cinch to do clutchless changes to get home.

The throttle cable on mt CB400F broke on a long night time trip and I was to tie a very tight knot in the end using the Honda toolkit pliers which then fit into the throttle spool. It worked until I could get a new cable the next day.

Clutch cable on my XRV750, clutch cable on the CB400f, rear brake cable on a CB72 (my fault).
Since a few years I lube all cables of all bike regularly, since then no issue's anymore.

Broke the throttle cable one night. Screwed the throttle stop screws hard in so it idled at 6000 revs until I could get into a town and a street light to make some better repairs. It was ok on the down hills and flats but had to get off and push up some of the hills. Taped the outer to the fork leg and had enough cable left to wrap round the twist grip and get me the 150 miles back to Auckland. It was the second time it broke that day.
