Found this chrome piece at Mid-Ohio over the weekend. It's stamped 'Stanley D-2R' and I think it was originally meant for a Black Bomber (it mounts behind that alloy backing plate).

Anyone seen this piece before???

Nope. Nice touch Vince; and a steal! I think all Dream, CB, Supercub & BB taillights were Stanley D-2R(?); except the late '67> models.

Are those tyres Dunlop K82s?

Hi Vince,

Included a picture of my CB450 '65 tail light.
The bike is an all original low miles (< 1500 miles) unrestored example,
so this is what it looked like in the 70's.

K82 TT100 Lightweights! Too bad they discontinued the smaller size (2.75x18), as they were rated a 'best buy' from Classic Bike Magazine a few years ago. Very confidence-inspiring tires (tyres!), and they have the vintage look too. You can still get 3.00x18.

I was kicking around the idea of chroming that alloy backing plate of the taillight assembly, as I think that the shiny chrome of that piece runs a bit counter to the seemingly dull alloy of the other piece. Maybe I have to live with it for a while to decide for sure.....

Update on the gas cap -- during the course of the Baltimore-Mid Ohio-Baltimore ride, I filled up probably about 10 times or more, and usually filled up to about 1.5" from the top. No leakage, the gasket was dry, no fouling paint. I think we've solved it!

I've now had the bike 6 years, and have logged over 18,300 miles since. Let's hope it continues!

Really the way I think this tail light should look -- seems to be more 'unified', now that I had that backing plate chromed....


Found a new watch on eBay....probably late 1930's 'dollar' watch. I like the pale yellow and black combo, as well as the rotating red seconds numbers!
