VIN numbers of CP-77'sVIN numbers of CP-77'sI just repurchased a CP-77 that I bought at auction about 10 years ago. The VIN numbers don't seem to correspond to the range listed in the Silver book. My frame is CP77-1100009, engine CP77E-1100046. I believe the 7 digit no's are typical of 65 up, but the first digits being "11" seems to be different than what my book shows. I previously owned another CP, and it had it's VIN beginning with "10"xxxxx. The bike I now have has the same equipment as the other one ( non folding rider pegs, KPH speedo, etc) although this one ( the "11" bike) has no turn signals, of course they could have been removed by a previous owner. After selling my last CB-77 2 years ago, it sure is nice to have another Hawk, this one sure runs great. Any thoughts on approximate vintage (as close as you can get with these things, anyway!) would be great!
Thanks! Jan
Re: VIN numbers of CP-77'sThe idea that all HONDA'S had 7 digit number starting at 1965 doesn't apply to some of the issues for instance the CP77 issues.
Looking at my HONDA Frame and Engine number history. (Feb. 28, 1969) Type1 engines for 1964. CP77E-1100001 to 1100803. Frame number 1100001 to 1100803 CP77E-3100001 to 3100100. Frame number 3100001 to 3100100 The following numbers are for the TYPE2 engine issue. I find A 1964 CP77 could/will start at CP77E-4000001 to 4001260. Frame 4000001 to 4001103 Also CP77E-4900001 to 4901223. Frame 4900001 to 4900641 1965 to ??????????????????. CP77E-1000001 to 1052315. Frame number 1000001 to 1007966 CP77E-1900001 to 1901540 Frame number 1900001 to 1901535 From this I suppose your engine is a TYPE1? Clear as mud?. ...........................lm
Loud Mouse,
Thanks for the info you provided! I think the '64 model with Type 1 engine fits this bike's characteristics ( 180 crank/dual points). I do believe it's a fairly early bike, it has the seat with chrome buckles, and doesn't appear to have ever had a lift handle on the left rear frame rail...again, that could be wrong on my part, too, just going by the paint not being marked in that location. Not that any of this makes much difference, just that i enjoy researching my bikes. Again, thanks for the info! Jan
