The way I read the wiring diagram (CB77), the headlight should not be a factor unless a previous owner has monkeyed with the wiring or a short has developed somewhere.

With the headlight out of the circuit, as is, and the headlight switch in the off position, you should be able to check if the charging circuit is good.

If you want to check the generator output, disconnect the Brown, Yellow and Pink wires coming from the AC generator at the harness connector. With the engine running, measure AC volts between Brown and Yellow. You could do the same test of the Brown and Yellow wires at the rectifier if you disconnect them from the rectifier. This will tell you if your generator is making power, and in the second instance, if that power is making its way through the harness connections to the rectifier.

Again, unless the wiring has previously been played with, the headlight should not be a factor in whether the charging system works.

This has me intriqued...let me know what you find out.

Charging system basics

I, as have many, posted a thousand and one words on the electrical subject. Go here and Search using keywords; it's all there, including colour wiring diagrams.

Keyword searching will reveal hundreds of solutions for everything; it's all here to be found.

Here's how to test the rec.

I'm not typing it in again......
