Newby here with clutch cable questionNewby here with clutch cable questionHi all. Just got a 69 ca77 (I think). It has frame #ca78 1021939 and engine #ca77e 1022124. It needs all of the cables replaced. I seem to be having trouble finding a clutch cable. Please correct me if I am wrong, but I need the shorter cable for the later bikes, right? I can find the long 53 inch 1 for early bikes. Will the long 1 work? What are my options? Will any other Honda cross over? Million thanks in advance...Mark
if your clutch cable is run in the newer forward position, then I would think a scrambler clutch cable might work as its the same direction and has the high bars... the hawk cable is made for low bars and would probably be too short. I'm sure others will chime in.. good luck, you'll love the bike.. Bill

Help Stop Global Whinning Its considered bad luck to be superstitious. Well after much study and searching, I have determined that these cables are still out there,
but the venders really do not know which bikes their parts fit. The only real way to get the right part is to measure your old one and ask the length of the one they are selling. Apparently they changed the length and location of the clutch cable sometime in 1964 making it much shorter, around 40 inches compared to about 55 inches for the earlier type. Mark I was able to melt the lead that holds the end that att. to the clutch mech. and cut the cable and then I used plumbing solder to put it back together and it has held together for acouple of years now.If you go to 4shorts Dream restoration threads he did a excellent job of shortening a cable by machining a new end and then used silver solder to put it back together, but he has all the equipment and more experience than I.Check his out or PM him.Joe
