Greetings from new member in Boston with CB77Greetings from new member in Boston with CB77Hello to the Forum, I am happy to own a CB77 once again! I bought one new in 1964, converted it for road racing in 1966. Then I had another mid-1970s that I restored and sold to a friend a few years later. Then last week, my "new" Superhawk arrived, a complete bike needing minor work and TLC -- will post pics later.
The bike is titled as a 1965, but I'm pretty sure it was produced in '63 or '64 since the frame # is CB77311580. My first question has to do with rear shocks. It now has new chrome Red Wings that I want to replace. Did the originals come with steel or plastic top covers for that vintage? Also, I recall seeing a replacement shock with top & bottom spring covers but can't locate the site now -- anybody? Thanks -- I look forward to many good conversations, Kurt I pulled the carbs off as soon as I got the bike and started poking around. One carb had the wrong float gasket, the other, a homemade gasket -- carb kits on order. Compression and spark are good, valves close, oil looks clean, will change anyway, chain and sprockets like new, tires new (but oversize). The bike came with a box of parts, some good stuff, some junk. I've installed a repro mudflap since. More pics when I get the carbs together and re-start.
Kurt,
My Honda Dealer is Bettencourt's Honda in West Bridgewater. Call and ask for Dave Sheible, 508-587-1700. He is the BEST parts guy around!! Was your bike repainted? It looks earlier than mine because of the painted fork lowers. Plus the centerstand was originally painted black. Looks nice though! Phil
