65 CA77 TEXAS REBUILD (ROUND 2) RAT BIKE

Post by Onemilewest » Mon Sep 07, 2009 9:59 pm

OK, Round 2

My original post was, “65 CA77 TEXAS REBUILD.” So many things have changed since my original post that I decided to start a new string. It has been a year since I started this resto. I have since wrecked my Triumph, rebuilt it, and took a promotion that requires 40% travel. But I have made progress……

My original intent was to do an original resto, but I learned a few things since then. Mainly, it was too expensive. I also learned that powder coating the frame and body panels were not a good idea. I used “LAB METAL” as a body filler, but I could not sand it fine enough to not show up through the coating. So, I have decided to do a nice RAT resto. Every part, bolt, nut, etc has been redone. I bought a cabinet blaster, oven and powder coater and decided to coat my own stuff. Parts that is.

I now have everything restored and just require final assembly. I ran into a snag though. The front shock bushings are shot and I destroyed the bolts removing them. As soon as I get a replacement, I can finish the front end. I have a few other things to wrap up and LOUDMOUSE has my motor and carb. I should be able to get the bike together before I need to drive down to the hill country. Anyway on to the pics. I would have posted sooner, but my camera crapped out. I went and bought one today, so here goes.

Well, it says that all my attachments are too large. Give me a sec to figure this out.
