per Western Hills they have two choices for choice dollars: 05 CLUTCH, CENTER 22121-268-020 001 $78.96 05 CLUTCH, CENTER 22121-268-040 001 $78.96 I'll try ebay for cheaper option. do you know the proper part # of the part you recommend? will the friction disks from WH be proper, matching what I already have? also, my first plate behind the wire ring in the photo is a bit thicker and has a chamfered edge on the backside. still incorrect? I replaced the clutch assembly thanks to LM, loaded it up with the napa oil and went around the block a few times. Shifted and ran great. I then parked the bike for a few weeks. Now, during this time It rained a lot, the bike was always covered however. here's my problem. Upon starting it revved high immediately and could only be controlled by the choke. I wiggled the throttle cable and unstuck it and it seemed to settle down. maybe I need a new one of those. I ran the bike to warm it up, get some gas and oil moving through it then shut it down. it sat for a week yesterday I timed it, adjusted the carbs, started it, it revved high. could not get it to settle down. i noticed the slides were sticking so I broke down the carbs and cleaned them and reinstalled. today I started it up, revved really high, I played with the carbs and throttle cable, could not get it to settle, it just revved high and began to smoke. I shut it down fearing I had done damage. After it cooled I drained the oil and opened the left case to make sure everything was as it was supposed to be. seems fine. before I fill the oil and try again.....does anyone have any ideas? I am not an idiot, nor am I an experienced mechanic when i reassembled after the initial clutch repair I had a gut feeling that the oil filter spindle was not installed correctly, I let it go. when I put it back together tonight I was sure to double check. man, I feel like I need to get rid of this thing. help please-----thank you much Alot times the slides will stick in the carbs due to an over-tightening of the nuts. The soft aluminum carb bodies easily warp under the tension, causing the slide to stick in the top of the misshapen carb.
I've been told to tighten to finger tight, then just a few turns with a wrench. Could be the cable too though. Current restoration: 1962 CB77
http://www.flickr.com/photos/1962_cb77_restore/ Yeah, turns out it's the tightness of those nuts, I never had that problem before. they are really loose now, just a touch tighter than finger tight. I'm worried they fall off en route. maybe the manifolds are warped? I guess I could sand them down if so.
Marvel M oil in the gas may help keep those slides slick Thx
