CB 77 Parts Wanted.... Any scrappers out there?

Post by shanepeeler » Mon Jun 15, 2009 8:54 pm

I am looking for both sidecovers as well as the cover that goes behind the cyllinders and on top of the block. I also would be interested in an exhaust system and a few other odds and ends. Does anyone have any parts bikes out there?

Thanks, Shane Strong

Try Tim McDowell at Classic Honda Restoration www.classichondarestoration.com

He should have most of what you need. As far as exhaust systems go, he has repro ones that he had made, but expect to shell out some big $$$ (as in $600-$800). Used ones are usually beat to heck and probably have holes and who knows what else going on with them, so I wouldn't count on that.

Vince was just sharing his BSA Gold Star mufflers with me. A pretty cool alternative if you aren't going for 100% accurate. Give the 305 a nice bite. You can see his bike here.

I'm working on how to do a video of the sound of them while underway - maybe clamp the camera to the bike somehow with a Manfrotto superclamp and a threaded brass stud?

Those mufflers are like $ 450 a pair + shipping, though those particular ones are no longer available from TOGA. Armours and Len Haggis from the UK make a similar pair.

That is the one thing about nicer mufflers - they sure are not cheap!

Those mufflers are sweet. I am probably not going to make the bike absolutely correct, it would be far easier to make it correct if it was in better shape than it is. I am still thinking about stock vs custom colors etc... I really like the guts you had to make it your own and not worry about what others think Vince... nice job. Actually, I like both sets of mufflers you had on the bike and am planning to just find some mufflers for other applications and make it work. I am sure eventually my bike will be very nice but I just don't have the funds to buy all those expensive mufflers and such...besides they are much more fun if you can ride them w/o worrying about ruining a O.C.D. restoration... just my opinion though. Thanks for the words of encouragement Shane - God knows I can use 'em!

As far as inexpensive pipes go, those EMGO Dunstall ones are great for the money (as in probably $50.00 each from JC Whitney). Their only weakness is that mounting channel on the backside of the mufflers - I had three of them fracture, but there is probably some way to strengthen it, if you're handy with a welder.

As mentioned, Tim should have most things. Don't know if you would have a chance to go to Vintage Motorcycle Days in Mid-Ohio next month, but that would be a great place to look as well, not to mention it being a unique experience.

Engine Cover

Post by cbxmountainman » Wed Jun 17, 2009 11:42 am

I have a couple of extra engine covers available. Make an offer. They usually go on ebay for $25+. Am presently in Florida, but will be returning home next Tuesday to North Carolina. Have no email here, but you can reply to this site. Covers are in good condition, but will need paint. Charlie
