misses under a load

Post by DrScott » Mon Apr 27, 2009 12:37 pm

So my 63 Dream was running just barely. Missed severely with any more than minimal throttle. Plugs were carbon black. I lowered the slide needle one step at a time until its a low as possible. Did I mention that I live a 5000 feet. This seemed to help quite a lot. When I pull a hill however, it misses again. Checked the timing and it seems OK to me with a dynamic light. I should mention that I was not able to get the proper carb float level as the cross bar which connects the two floats (replacement float) would hit the housing as I approached 22mm.
Thanks

How do the plugs look now? You may need to drop a size on both jets to compenste for the altitude.

Thanks
I have not checked them again but will. The current jets came with a Keyster kit. Where Do I get smaller ones?

Possibly western hills honda or ohio cycles. Do you still have the jets that came out of carb? You may want to try re-installing them, and the stock needle as well if you still have it.

Why didn't I think of that when I rebuilt the carb? Oh well, I have dealt with Ohio Cycle that's a good idea.

22mm? Thought the CA77's was 26.5mm on the float adj.Keysters will make you run rich.

I'll have to look it up but I thought it was 22. What is the symptom of improper float level other than spill over if the needle valve won't seat? What do you mean Keyster will make you run rich? Are the jets too big? What is my alternative? I live and ride at 5000 ft.
Thanks for the input.
