Rectifier color code

Post by ROBM50 » Thu Apr 23, 2009 11:55 pm

Hey guys! I have a 1966 305 Dream and I'm wanting to install a solid state rectifier that I purchased from Oregon Motorcycle Parts. My question is concerning the wires that are currently attached to my Selenium type rectifier. I have a red one that I know is the positive, two other wires, one being yellow and the other brown. I know that the latter two go to the stator and my question is which one would be considered the ground? I appreciate all the help that I've gotten previously from you guys! Rob

Hi ROBM50!

It depends which rectifier do you have.

If you have the 42 Amp 3 wire Rectifier with Screw connectors:

Brown ----> Yellow
Yellow -----> Yellow
Red -----> Red

The Black one you ground to the frame (you can use the old support to ground it).

Hey thanks Albano! I do have the 42 amp rectifier with the two yellow coded terminals and one red one, and the black ground wire that you speak of! My question is, does it matter which one of the yellow terminals on the rectifier the brown wire off the stator attaches to?

It doesn't matter which one of the yellow terminals you connect the brown wire.
