Honda's method apparently was to use lock washers with no washers and just let em dig in.
My new paint's kind of fragile still so I'm using lots more washers than Mr. Honda did. Probably overdoing it but I know it's grounded for sure, one less thing to keep me awake at night.

Once the star washer has bitten into the paint, protect from corrosion with a shot of spray silicon-grease; it's available from most electronic suppliers.
