Seat Chrome Removal AdviceSeat Chrome Removal AdviceI have tried to get the chrome seat trim off my CL77 seat but the screw turns with the nuts. Any great ideas about how to get the nuts off the screws with out damaging the trim or the threads?

Soak the threads with a good penetrating oil. I then use an electric impact gun, with a socket, and sometimes thet will come right off. Next step, I try to pry out the trim while using impact gun, next I try to get a pair of needle nose pliers beetween the trim and pan, and use the impact. I just removed one last week, and two of the bolts snapped, all of the rest come off with one method or another.
davomoto Thanks- I kinda figured on penetrating oil and maybe grabbing the backside with the needle nose. Didn't think about an impact gun. Don't have one but I won't let that stop me. If the studs do break, what do ya do for replacement? I envision that the head of the stud slides into a channel on the chrome strip. Do you grind down flat the head of a similar screw or is there a replacement out there somewhere.

I bought all new stainless steel screws and nuts at Lowe's. The total price was under $10. I used a Dremel cutoff wheel to cut all of the old nuts off so I could get the chrome strip off of the seat. The old bolts slide down the strip to places that are wider so you can remove the bolts. After you clean everything up, just insert the new bolts. If I remember correctly, I may have ground the rounded tops on the bolts to make them thinner. Actually, it all worked out VERY well. If I had it to do over, I would do it the same way again.
