OK thanks for doing that - I think we have different shocks. The diameter of my top cover is more like 2.75". I spoke to Hagon this morning and they're sending out some different spring retainers which will push the top cover down by about 10mm, this will mean that it should easily clear the frame, but I'm not sure what it will look like on the bike. I can see me sending these back to be honest.

Recently put a set of Hagons on a 1964 CB77. The part number was 31012. Upper cover measured 2.508" diameter (63.7mm). There is only about .060" clearance fron the cover to the frame stamping when all is tightened up, but nothing hits. Regards, Chase

Interesting, part number for the CB72 is 31028, I wonder if thats a spring difference or difference in the covers. I've taken a more careful measurement of the top cover, and the diameter matches the 2.5" you're seeing, but there's definitely not enough clearance to tighten it up - but it's only by a few mm. If the different spring retainers look odd I might look at an extra rubber damper or a spacer, I should be able to find something at Stafford in a week or so.

I fit Hagons to my 1966 CB77, and the top shroud sits exactly like yours. It's all okay in the end, I think, but I remember being disappointed in how "fat" the shroud actually is. I called Hagon's and ordered them direct, and that's what they sent me -- but the shrouds on mine were obviously much bigger than the stock Honda.

I think maybe Hagon have changed the design of the top cover and colletts in the last few years.
Mine are about 6/7 years old and have a 1 piece flat retainer/collett like the last Girlings,
but I noticed at Stafford ( big classic show here in the UK ) that quite a few bikes had Hagons
with "domed" retainers - couldn't measure the diameter of the shroud.
