I am going to be very careful about running it too lean.

You don't think a 135 main would be too much for a CA77? In Silver's restoration guide, he states that the pw22 takes mains ranging from 90 to 125.

I am in the process of putting this motor into my project bike. I think I will put a 120 or 125 main in and see how it goes.

Ed, shouldn't a CA77 have a PW26 carb? Bryan's mentioned a PW22 in his last post.

The 250 and 305 DREAM use the same PW22 carb. ..............lm

Aha! In that case, Bryan, 26.5mm is the correct float height!

I TOLD YOU SO........

Just kidding, thanks for the help.

I think I almost have it dialed in. 120 main, 138 slow, and the needle clipped to the leanest position (the top). Setup like this, it idles great, coloring the plug nicely, if I don't take it out on the road. But, when i do, it runs well except at wide open throttle, where it misses just a little bit, and the plugs look like they are little lean.

Tomorrow I am going to try putting in a 125 main and leave everything else alone. Hopefully this will be the magic combo.

Try raising the needle to the prescribed middle notch before changing out the mainjet. See how it performs with wide throttle openings and monitor the plugs' colours immediately after such a ride.

e3steve,

With the 120 main and 38 slow setup I tried 3 needle positions. I started at the middle and then tried the leaner 2. When the clip was in the second highest position, the bike ran very well. Solid throttle response all the way through. Unfortunately, the plugs would come out a bit sooty.

As far as theory goes....

The lowering and raising of the needle does not have much effect on the idle and lower end of the throttle range. Is this correct?

Thanks again,

Bryan
