maybe buying this bike..cb77 1965??

Post by AWILLIAMS64 » Fri Aug 01, 2008 11:24 am

I am looking at this bike, #'s cb77-1010100 and motor cb77e 1009981. here are some pics http://smg.photobucket.com/albums/v475/ ... ms64/cb77/ I found this at a garage sale, it is missing the kick starter and has not been ran since 1974. I have not been able to see if it turns over because the oil has been drained before it was stored, tank has some rust in it but it is in overall good shape. any help on identifying this would ge greatly appreciated. it has 10k miles on it. What is the general worth of these bikes?

Hello Awilliam64,
Welcome to the forum. It appears the bike is an early 1965 with a later model seat. The bike has been setting for 34 years so there is a chance the carbs are damaged. You could put the bike on the centerstand in 4th gear and see if you can get it to turn over(taking the sparkplugs out is good if it is allowed). To put the bike back to original condition would take some time and money but it is a decent starting point, I've seen much worse. It appears it has Webco upswept megaphones with the baffles still intact. These can go for considerable money on Ebay. I know this doesn't answer the question "what it is worth?", but,as with anything, it's worth what somebody is willig to give.
Good luck, Randy

the pipes are in excellent condition, just some minor surface rust. I can get this bike for $600. I dont know if thats a good price or not. I am probably going to buy it just to have something to tinker with. All of the fluids were drained from the bike before it was put into storage so i do not know if that is a good or bad thing. I am waiting for some title work to be done with it. The person who currently owns it has the title but it is not in his name. The persons name on the title has passed away. The last time it was tagged was 1974. So he says he can get a clear title for me so i am waiting for that to happen. also is it possible to get keys made for these? it has no keys! i did notice it is missing the kick starter. are these 12v or 6volt systems?

If the motor isn't junk, in my opinion, that would be a good buy.If it isn't locked up and has some compression,I would take a chance. They are fun to work on,and there are a few parts out there for sale, some affordable, some not.Keys can be made off the number on your switch.Do a search on here.I remember reading about it...Dan

If the engine turns over, and you have tools and ability it's a good price. If you pass on it, let the forum members know where it's at, as someone on this forum would surely love to have it!

I sure would be interested in that one. I got a cb 750k last year but a 305 superhawk is what I was really looking for. It's been about 37 years since I had mine!!!

I will be picking it up as soon as he gets the title straightend out. it should be early next week. since it has no oil in it at all should i pull the plugs and put some oil in the cylinderes and wait a couple of days to let it lubricate it.
