spokes for sale
Zinc platingI seem to remember an article in Popular Science or Popular Mechanics a while back about doing your own zinc plating at home. A guy did some nuts and bolts in the article as I remember. I wonder how costly it would be to do small items (like spokes) at home. I also think the Eastwood company sells a zinc plating kit for small parts - or used to.
stolen from another thread ( http://www.honda305.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=1537 ), Dogsbd original poster, but moreso related to thier polishing products
http://www.caswellplating.com/ http://www.caswellplating.com/kits/plugnplate.htm small parts kits start around $30-40. cannot offer any endorsement, havent tried any of thier products. we do alot of work with electroplaters and my experience in thier shops it's a nasty environment - you can smell/taste the vapors in the air ... definately a shed project rather than kitchen counter ... at least if you're married.(and want to remain as such) the bigger kits, which i think is what you'd want, start around $150 for zinc. if anyone has any background / heard any fish stories about these plate-at-home kits i'd love to hear about em. polishing spokesI use the drill process like 3bean except I just use fine steel wool and a can of mothers mag polish. Makes them shine like new. When done, I lay them on a piece of cardboard and give them a shot of bomb clear. Let em dry a day roll them over and bomb the other side. I have a set on my scrambler I did 2 years ago and still look like new. Just depends if you want to spend 100.00 bucks on new ones or mess with the old ones. I would like to get into replating the nipples. Western Hills honda has new sets of spokes small hub and large hub. About 100.00 bucks for each wheel and they dont shine as good as my polished ones.
