Ed Moore's Recipe

Post by red75ride » Wed Apr 16, 2008 12:46 pm

Ok...I looked and searched on my 1966 CB77 to find out where I put the vise grips...AND I see no "F" anywhere...the recipe doesn't tell me anything about removing anything but the point cover. I got to step 9 and hit a dead end. Maybe mine is different? I see the "mark" on the cam shaft but where is there the "F"? Duh..I feel stupid right now.
Thanks, Larry

Larry remove the outer cover on lower right of engine. There you will find the rotor, with all of the marks you could ever want. Several things can make your bike run rich. First get a proper tune on it, and recheck plugs. Make sure the cutouts in the slides are facing to the rear. Check how many turns out your mixture screws are. If none of this makes any sense to you, or even if it does, do yourself a favor and order the Bill Silver books available through this site.

Remove the top cap on carb. Pull the spring up, and remove cable. The slide will now be free in your hand. Push the needle up, and the retainer will come out as well. There is a clip on the needle. This is the part you'll move. Up to lean out, down to make richer. Stock position is 2cnd groove from bottom.

davomoto,
EURIKA!!! Hey,,,,Ed Moore's Recipe did the trick on the ignition and it wasn't hard either. Thanks for explaining the side cover thing. The Recipe shoud have that in it...I'm not the kind of guy who "hopes" that by taking this and that off, I just might stumble on an answer. Thank you yet again. I'll drive the bike around today and see if the carb acts any better...I haven't moved the rod in the carb yet...I wanted to wait to see if it ran better now that I have correct points and timing. I owe you another cold one...thanks for being on the forum. Larry

Larry, make it a Sierra Nevada Pale Ale, ice cold of course! Oh yeah, your welcome.
