Erodes electrode on CB77

Post by redblk63 » Sat Feb 11, 2023 11:45 am

Took a nice ride up the Angeles Crest yesterday. When I checked the plugs back home, I noticed the right plug was dead white and no electrode above the ceramic. Surprisingly, ran ok but missed a bit. So, a plus for points ign!

Se photo of electrode. My advance has been fixed, so next to check are plugged jets, or a very advanced right set of points.

The timing was fine, and carb jets were not blocked. It turns out there was a n air leak between carb snd head. Boy, those o rings are hard to find.

If I understand your diagnosis: the unmetered air leaned the mixture on that side and caused an overheated condition leading to the electrode erosion. Perfectly logical.

Well done!

A nice reminder that a proper diagnosis is worth its weight in gold ...as mixed metaphors go.
