Mac, you probably need to loosen the 10mm bolt on the right cover, and rotate the large flat head , which is the clucth lifter, until you get slack. Are you spinning the trans when you are attempting to shift it? It is sometimes easier if you have someone spinning the countershaft while you shift the gears. It is common for it to only shift half a gear when you aren't spinning trans. Let me know if any of this helps.

yeah we were spining it... it's like the shift fork isn't lineing up... it doesn't look bent or broken... it just hits the next tooth on the drum gear in a way that would make it bind...

I was wondering why the adjuster was sticking out of the case.I did not think it was possible to remove them from the cover without pulling the cover off.The reason it would not go back in is probably because you were hammering against the clutch springs. Was it shifting ok before you worked on it?Did you split the case at all?Joe

Well after talking to Ed this morning I split the cases... this was the first time I've done it on this engine and my first time ever... It went pretty smooth... now having it apart everything seems ok... but I don't have the trained eye... but I am able to move it through all of the gears I think... take a look at the pics and let me know what you think... I'll post the ones of the gear box that I took with my phone first and then of how the shifter fork was hitting weird tonight as those pics are on my camera and I don't have the cables at the shop.. Joe what adjuster do you mean? I don't think it was shifting properly before I started...

You may want to pull the shift drum out and see if there are any chips in it where the small rollers ride and check condition of rollers.Rollers sit in drum guides for shift forks then bolt goes in shift fork.If you have a parts book it will show this.Joe
