CB77 Engine restoration.
Sounds like you and DJ are having a pretty good time there. That IS a Fine Looking motor at that! I can only imagine the look of those wheels. Hope you were as straight as the wheel sdhould have turned out, when you were putting the wheels together. Ha! Ha! Just had to mess with ya on that one. I'm sure those wheels are a sight to see and straight as an arrow!
Take care, Bill Mine has been waiting on my cylinder which was finished today (Pic below)... I had it bored .25 over to match my pistons (Thanks Ed for the pistons and rings!) I'll be building tomorrow so I'll post pics of the completed engine tomorrow night if all goes well.... I was curious about your piston set up... are those custom or does Wiseco sell cb77 pistons? I am also planning on glass blasting mine... My only concern is that once blasted it'll become a maintenance issue to keep it clean... With such a rough surface I would imagine it would attract and hold any oil grease or dirt it comes into contact with... I've even considered using pure vinegar instead to clean it or to blast it and then spray the lower with a clear coat... what are your thoughts on this?
Mac, Wiseco does make pistons for the 305s. Tim McDowell sells them on his website. http://www.classichondarestoration.com/ ... _Parts.php
The glass beaded sufaces are a bit rough, and do attract dirt. They clean up pretty easily, but will get dingey with time. I've thought about clear coating over the bead blasted surfaces, but have not tried it yet. I plan to try it on an engine sidecover in the near future. Good luck with the build, and keep the pics coming. davomoto Well I got the top end together with everything lined up properly the whole process went nice and smooth.... Then I put the side cases on snugged them down and that's where the problems started... when I installed the right case I noticed that it was disengaging the clutch... Is this common? I noticed as I was using the kick starter to turn the whole thing over and nothing was happening... Also I noticed that my shifter isn't shifting through all of the gears... I don't know what gear it's in but I can get it to go back one and then forward one but not two in a row in either direction... and that's it... The shift arm will stick on the next outer tooth of the drum gear... like it's out of alignment or something ... any ideas... also the Spindle shifting rod is super loose and can be pulled out like a 1/4 inch from the case... oh and if I didn't mention in any of my earlier posts it's a 64 cb77... I know that this isn't necessarily the proper spot for these questions but it kinda applies as this is what happened today during assembly...
-Brandon- below are some pics of the mostly complete engine... ShiftingMac,
Years ago when reassemblying my CL's tranny I couldn't get the gearshift to shift more than one up or one down. Turns out I had one gear on the transmission shaft on backwards and the dogs weren't meshing with the adjacent gear(s). A Honda mechanic friend spotted it after a 30 second visual exam of the gears in the tranny. Not sure if this could be your problem. Did you have the tranny apart? Gary '65 CL77 Owner
Just wondering if the clutch adjuster is installed incorrectly would that cause it to extend too far and compress the clutch rod far enough to release the clutch when you tightened the screws on the cover.Did the cover seem to be far from the case when you started the screws?Just my two cents.Never tried it.Joe
yes the screws were pulling the case snug... it would compress the rod as the case was tightened... I did try to removeing the clutch adjuster plug in the case but decided against it and hammered it back in place... maybe not enough... i'll check..... As for the tranny I didn't take it apart... so I don't know ... I'll take some pics today and post them... thanks for the help guys!!!
