cam timing chain

i broke the cam timing chain in order to get the head off a 305 dream, and was wondering if i needed to get a new sprocket when i replace the chain

No need to replace the cam sprocket unless it is damaged, check the rivets that hold the sprocket on the cam assembly they are known to become loose over time. Make sure the advance springs are good and the advance mechanism is not wore out.
