1966 CL77 Piston Ring End Gap Stock Bore

Post by Honda305rider » Wed May 02, 2018 7:51 pm

Hey Guys,

I'm trying to fix up an old CL77 that blew the cam cover off and oil all over my leg... I cannot find any information that is legible in my PDF owners manual that tells me piston ring end gap...

This is a stock bore size engine...

Best I can find for upper and lower compression ring is:

0.15mm ~0.35mm

Oil Control Ring:

0.1mm ~0.03mm

Is this correct? I'm going to hone the bores this weekend and lap the valves.

Thanks,
Chris

.005-.006 with new rings. If in question get .25 over and hand file the gap. Good piston to cylinder .002-.003

According to my shop manuals, your numbers are correct. Just keep in mind that if you hone too much then you may need an oversized ring and size accordingly as said in another post. I have used stock rings before and done well. Rusty

Awesome, thanks guys! I will make sure my piston clearance is correct and i will set the ring end gap to the correct spec in my first post.
