Smokey Dream.....

Post by Githianki » Thu May 15, 2008 8:03 pm

I just got my second machine up and semi running I guess you could say. New coil, points, rectifier, and condenser. Kicks over after 3-4 tries, then starts right up. No need for choke to be more then half closed. Before I even tried starting it, I changed the oil, made sure everything was timed right, the valves were set to the proper clearance, and everything else was clean. It runs great, nice and smooth. But after about 2 minutes of running, the right side starts pouring out smoke. Its pretty thick, but more whiteish then blue. Tried letting it run for a few to see if it got any better, but not so much. Any ideas?

Sounds like its happening after things warm up a bit. Maybe oil residue in the exhaust system? If so there may be a previous valve problem that is probabl still there?

was the smoking rectified, I got the same thing on this Dream, teardown showed massive oil all over the head gasket, bad O ring seal I suspect, this bike sat for years and maybe a re torque would have prevented this problem, looking to see if this is somewhat common
