Greag

Do you know if you definitely have a CB crank rather than a CL one which doesn't have the lube oil for the starter bush?

Hi Graham

It was a roller bearing and the correct crankcase. I am pretty sure the oil feed and bearing hole were aligned as looks like some aluminium from the bearing has gone up from the bearing.
I have managed to get the bronze bush and damaged bearing off the crank, all the other bearings are OK but I think the surface the damaged bearing sits on is not good so I will need a replacement crank section, bearing and rebuild or replacement crank.
There is a bit of scoring on the inside of the crankcase but I guess not a problem as long as all the swarf is cleaned out.
What is perplexing me is that although it is clear the bearing has been starved of oil, I still do not really know why it happened. The feed hole was clear apart from the Al lumps which I think have come from the bearing and I have also checked the oil gallery at the front of the engine which seems clear based on air passage. The only thought I had was that the bearing was already damaged as the engine was definitely run with the oil feed blocked before I stripped it down.

Forgot to mention, the crank does have the hole in it so seems to be CB.

Glenn

If you can email me some pictures - I'll share them on your thread and show you how it's done.

I wonder if the roller cage broke up and caused the damage?
