Venice,

The 6mm pump doesn't add very much oil capacity to the sump. The recommended 3/16" above full line is probably only 12oz extra oil, if that. This 6mm version does pump more oil volume that's why you need to keep oil level a little high. Depending on the quality of your oil I would think every 1000 mile is better and yes change the filter each time. But Its your call.

Not sure if the claimed 25% additional flow is considered substantial or not, but I would have thought you'd have been able to go longer between oil changes.

Hi,

Yes, every 1000 km will do for me, and no, this info is not from Franco.

First of all, I do more highway miles, and secondly, the filter has a very small surface area. Next to that, the filter elements are cheap. I don't refresh the oil every 1000 km, I do this once a year, or at 2000 km, whatever comes first (I use Castrol 10W50 synth.)

Okay, that sounds a bit clearer. How dirty does the filter look after 1000km?

You can go for as long as you dare. These wide gear pumps are more for full race with high valve spring pressure or street use with oil coolers. I run good stock pumps for street stock cams with FC filter system.

Just heard from John regarding the quantity of oil that equals 3/16". Total oil added was just a bit more than 2.5 quarts.

Oil for old Hondas

Post by Wally Schauer » Tue Mar 24, 2015 4:38 pm

If you check into the oils listed for use by the newer bikes of any brand with wet clutches you will find that they recommend "non-energy conserving" oil. Look for the round symbol on the bottle with the rating "SF, SG, SH etc. and it will say in the circle "energy conserving" (which contains the Moly stuff which lets the clutch slip). Just buy a brand (multiweight or not) you like without this marking. Also as has been said, check out the JASO oil specs. for motorcycles, it will talk about the same thing.
Also "detergent" oil only holds matter so small you can't filter it with the little centrifigal type oil seperators in these engines, they only take out the big stuff to keep from scratching up bearings. This is why the oil turns black no matter what type of oil you use detergent or not.
