Cam chain tensioner wheel

Post by Woodsie » Sun Feb 28, 2016 5:28 pm

I had no adjustment left in the cam chain adjuster. Took it out and see the wheel looks kinda gnarly. Tried to post pictures but was not able to. I'm guessing the chain needs replacing. This will have to wait till next winter. Will replacing the wheel buy me time, maybe 1000 miles over the year?

I know the answer. I also have low compression. It is the rings. Time to start making a list.

New wheels are not available. You may need to get a better tensioner assembly. I worked out a method (around p94 of my 1961 CB72 restoration thread ) to re-profile the wheels and replace the bearings.

Thanks G Man. I will read your restoration. I am at a pivital stage with this bike. If I can get away with a cylinder hone, rings, cam chain, maybe cam shaft bearings, cleaning up the head, I would be a happy camper. This was my daily commuter last year (only 10 mile round trip) and ran great.
