1963-1964 (Late) CA-78 Engine Restoration

Post by Doddsr » Fri Jul 26, 2013 7:49 pm

Still gathering info for the resto. Concerns is the correct way to restore the engine appearance. My plans are to disassemble the motor check it out and repair what is required. During the process I plan to glass bead the motor hardware, cases and covers due to the motor sitting outside for who knows how long and needing to be refreshed. Should I leave the head and cylinder bare and let them age while repainting the cases and covers the correct Honda silver while polishing the inspection covers? Or paint the head and cylinder? Or is there a more detail correct way of restoring the exterior of the motor and inner chain guard? And does anyone have a paint code plus manufacturer name for the correct Honda silver for 1963-1964 model CA-78. PPG is preferred for my supplier. Thank you.

Use the search function on this site. There has been a lot of discussion. Loud Mouse has done a lot of this kind of work and has made specific recommendations on paint.

The search function is not the best but, you can use it to find a lot of great info. Click the "posts" icon in the lower left and use different words/combinations and you should find what you are after.

Best wishes on your project.
