For your consideration.
For your consideration.Upon receiving a 1962 CA-77 from my girlfriend as a gift, I got somewhat excited about increasing the power of the engine. After disassembling the bike (as it was in poor condition), I came to the realization just how bad an idea that was. Before the purists among the readers think...right on, I am now considering updating some of the engine management systems for reliability and reduced maintenance. I plan to use the electronic ignition (as found on this site). I also plan to use an ECOTRONS EFI unit. Now for the rub...I would like to swap the single carb head for a dual carb. This would allow more control of fuel flow to each each cylinder. Would anyone like to chime in what the best dual carb head would be for this swap and why? Also I am sure this would this possible swap could necessitate other changes. What might they be and why?I would like to retain the original cases and crank.Thank you in advance for all replies.Greener.
The only head that will fit is the CB / CL 77. You than have the problem of clearance for the two carbs as the pressed-steel frame will foul them to a certain extent. You will need pistons to match as the CA pistons have a different crown to the CB or CL.
You will find that the Dream suspension and brakes are a limiting factor in using any additional performance. Uprated shocks with CB 18inch wheels might help. Everything is possible but you might be better off to a) put up with what you have or b) buy something more powerful. G '60 C77 '60 C72 '62 C72 Dream '63 CL72

I must have not been clear G-Man.I do not want more power as the bike is severely limited in structure, as well as,design.I do want an equal to stock power with more controlled engine management systems.I thought I might have to use the CL/CB piston as well. Are the piston weight equivalent or will a crank counterweight change be necessary?Greener
You don't need to replace the pistons.
The DREAM piston works well with the CB/CL77 heads and does raise the compression a bit. I personally know of a dozen or so engines running them at this time. .....lm

My apologies. I once did the reverse mod with a 500 Triumph. It didn't go as fast but it was a much nicer ride with one carb. It would do an easy 90mph and recorded 90mpg when touring. If you keep the Dream crank, you will also need the Dream cam to cope with the 360 firing interval. G

The CB/CL cams can be easily indexed at the splines to work with the 360 crank. ......lm
