Oil leak

Post by BigDaddy » Tue Jan 11, 2005 4:24 pm

I just finished restoring my CL77. While doing some final adjustments I notice a oil leak. It appears to be coming from the bottom of the right (kick - dry) side engine cover. There is a notch (factory made) in the bottom of the side cover. Not sure what it is for, but appears that is where the leak is. If this is the dry side, why would there be a oil leak? How do I stop the leak?

Thanks in advance for any help.
BD

Behind that cover is 3 seals: k/s spindle, trans output, and main crank. In additon to those there is alaso a seam from the upper and lower case halves. That notch is there so if you get an oil leak from the above mentioned points it doesnt collect in the cover, there are other reasons for that notch also.

georGe
I gave ya some false info there is actual 5 or 6 seals on that side depening on the model. In addition to the ones listed above there is one inside the trans output shaft for the clutch rod,one for the neutral safety switch and another for the electric start gear behind the gen. coil that works in conjunction w/ the crank seal. It is a bear to replace the trans output, crank and k/s spindle seals in place as they are clamped by the case halves. It can be done but its tough and risky to the seals. First determine which one is leaking and go from there.

georGe
