219T cam chain

Disassembling motor CL77E-1065793 and my old eyes see 219 T on the cam chain. Can't find any reference to that chain on the forum and only reference I find on the net is for later model Hondas. I read that 219 H is a heavy duty chain some folks like, but can anyone tell me what the "T" signifies? Also, does this suggest the motor has been modified in some way? It has ART 1.0 pistons.

It's just a replacement chain. They are all #219 size. What it suggests is that a Po rebuilt teh moor with new pistons and fitted a new chain while he was in there.

To determine whether it was modified, check the cams and ports.

Thanks, I was hoping it wasn't something bizzare, but after finding a 9mm Luger shell casing used as a knock pin between the head and cylinder, I was a little aprehensive.

219 cam chains

Not all 219 cam chains are exactly the same.

Some are continuous and have no master link.

Some come with a master link, but it requires a special tool to brad the end like a rivet.

If you want a clip-style master link for easy assembly, LM says that the Honda master links will not fit some chains. Honda master links will work with EK brand in the Red/Yellow box and RK brand in the Red/White box. There may be others, but those 2 will work. You may be able to get another brand of chain with a clip-style masterlink, but make sure you get their masterlink with the chain.

Good point.

In fact there are several different styles and thicknesses of 219 chain. Some have peanut side plates and some are flat. There are several different thicknesses of side plates which in turn changes pin length. Then there are different pin diameters too, as well as riveted links and spring clip joining links.

It is always important to get the right pin for any particular chain, and that applies to drive chains as well as cam chains.

Some small Honda 219 chains are very light and some chains are very heavy duty. I used to use the chain for a Yamaha SR500 because they were cheap and strong, but there may be better options out there.
