I have the Superhawk up for repairs. Was leaking oil from the right side cover and finally going to change the slipping clutch. Main oil leak was the crank seal behind the stator just like my Dream was doing a few months ago. Two questions. 1) was going to use the clutch that Tim at Classic Honda Restorations sells. I think it’s a Barnett. I’ve used them before on other bikes and liked them. Any concerns with this clutch. Not trying to get another “which oil should I use” thread going...
2) After pulling both side cases I noticed a small fractured area on both sides just above the crank bearing casting. Barely wiggled them with a fingernail and they both popped off. Below both chips was what looked like a small steel pin that may be some sort of lock pin?? for the crank bearing...at any rate, I’m wondering if anyone’s seen this before? Can I just leave it as is (without the chip) or should I dig out my JB Weld to fill in the void?

Re: Behind the side covers!It's hard to tell for sure from the pictures alone but your description makes it clear.
There are pins that locate the main bearings and prevent rotation of the outer races. It is quite possible to assemble the cases with the pins misaligned because the aluminum is soft and the hardware which holds the cases together creates a lot of force. This can crack the cases as the pin gets pushed into the aluminum. (Don't ask me how I know this. 😒). Unfortunately you need to pull the engine, split the cases and remove the crankshaft but the good news is that it is probably repairable. It’ll be something to address later as I’m having some issues with it jumping in and out of 2nd gear and I’m told that’s fairly common but requires a case split to fix too.
