Paul, I've watched with interest your C200 resto timeline and, in particular, your wheel-building. Once you've polished the hubs do you lacquer them? If so, what have you found to be the best product? I'm soon to start my CB77 wheels and I want to do it right (well, then I only have to do it the once!).

Thanks for taking the time to share your experience.

Regards to all,

Steve

Hi Steve. Happy to know you've enjoyed looking at my thread on the C200. As for my wheels or any of the pollished aluminum parts I've done I've used automotive clear coat but I've found that they need to be cleaned in acetone very well first and make sure when you handle them you don't get finger prints on them at all before clearing them. I've also used a shaker can of clear and found that to be pretty good as well and do look good on the aluminum. As for the longevity of it all I'm not sure. The bikes I've restored are just parked in my mini museum and never used. To get them operational they just need bat acid and fuel added but my daily rider is a GL1800 wing so that keeps me happy when I feel the need to ride.

Freshapple I've included how the engine should be set up. This set up is from a C100 book but the C200 should set up the same way if you have the push rod motor. Remember. All valves should be closed and the piston should be at T.D.C. (Top dead center) and the marks below as shown should be lined up. The cam lobe should be pointed opposite from the push rod as shown below If you have the overhead cam engine it's much different.

Well everyone seeing I'm off for a couple of weeks holidays It's given me a little time to do a few video's. I put this one together last evening on the C200 so I hope you enjoyed it. When I did the bike I painted it Arrival Blue and seeing some call these little gems Baby Dreams I've named it "Baby Blue".

To those over the last year or so that emailed me about these projects I want to say thanks. I would appreciate anyone that has questions in the future to post your questions on this site and that way we all benefit from both the questions and answers. After all that's what keeps this wonderful site alive.

Stay safe everyone and Happy Holidays to you all. Paul

Admiration and winker questions

Post by jludwick » Tue Dec 23, 2008 10:00 am

Paul,

I'm sure you've heard it 1,000 times, but gorgeous restoration!

I have a 1964 C200 (serial number C200156319) with rotary drive and
round taillight. It's probably from Canada since the speedo is in km/h
and it has a factory winker switch on the right handlebar. BUT, the
switch is broken off and my winkers are funky large ones mounted right
onto the headlight case and welded onto the rear winker mounts!

I sourced the OEM front winkers on eBay this week; they mount onto the
handlebars like yours:
(http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ... T&item=130\
257802282),
but I'm having trouble finding info about the rear winkers. Are the
parts shared with any other bikes? The replacement lenses in the rear
have a few reference to a CM90???

I'm pretty sure I could grind off the welded winkers and salvage the rear
winker bases, but I'll still need the innards and lenses (lenses are
easily found on eBay).

Also, where did you find replacement taillight lenses? I's like to keep this characteristic, since it appears to be rare.

Thanks a bunch for sharing and Merry Christmas,
Jon

Hi Jon. First of all, welcome to the site. Great bunch of people on here and all willing to help you out. The front winkers on the C200 are different than any I've seen on other models. The stems seem to be longer than other types I've seen.

If you do see a pair of them you'll need to watch out and make sure they fit the right size handlebar. It's my understanding that the C200 came with a few different sizes of handlebars so make sure that your getting the front winkers that fit the right size bar. As for the lens. I got my replacement ones on Ebay. There not exactly like the originals but close enough that they'll fit. Some of the "after Market" parts you'll find on Ebay are not as good as they look on the Ebay auction picture and just because they show the item with the Honda packaging it doesn't mean it's and original part. Some of these sellers display there items that way and It's very misleading and I don't like it when they do it.

As for the rear mounted winkers. there going to be a little harder to get. you will get used ones from time to time on Ebay so just be patient. I've never seen a good replacement one on the market that looked exactly like the originals. I had a picture which I attached to this post of how my rear winkers looked when I first got the bike.

My bike is pure Canadian and my speedo isn't metric. I attached a picture so you can see how mine looks.

Feel free to ask questions. I or others will help you out I'm sure. Thanks for your kind words on my work. Ride safe, Paul

Paul, I only found this thread about your restorations because a link to it was posted in reference to "polishing up the aluminum parts and I am fascinated by your work, your attention to detail. I don't know how I could have not seen this before. Outstanding work!

Take care, Bill

Thanks Bill. Very much appreciated. I never intended to restore the C200 but after I got into it I enjoyed It. These days I'm restoring an old forklift. Just needed a little change. Things were becoming to repetitive so the life was a pleasant change. Here's a link of out local biker sire here in Newfoundland if you want a sneak peak of the fork lift. Thanks again for your kind comments. Paul
