How many years have you been riding a motorcycle?
My first bike was a Honda 50 at 16, rode it into the ground (it didn't have far to go.) At 18 I got my first CA77. Since then I've been through a number of bikes, including my first project bike, a basketcase 1958 ( or thereabouts) Ariel 500cc single. The last one was sold when my oldest son was about two (at the insistance of my wife.) Now both my sons are grown and married. I got the itch to ride again (much to my wife's chagrin) and have been looking for a bike. so at 62 yrs old I found a 63 CA77 and caved in to nostalgia and bought it 8 days ago. Of course I had to take it for a spin, talk about nostalgia!! It felt so familiar it was unreal. I can't wait to get it to quit leaking, running perfect and looking good! It may take a while considering it smokes badly from the left cylinder.
Congratulations and welcome to The Forum, Stan. I know what you just experienced -- the same happened to me when I picked up my present CB. I sang to myself practically everywhere I rode during my delivery ride!
Here's some of my delivery log if you're interested.
I got my first bike at 13. It was a Honda XR80 dirt bike. Lots of trail making and fun rides with it. I had it until I was about 17 when it was passed down to less grateful nieces and nephews. When I was 19, I bought my first road bike. It was a Suzuki GS500. My parents were gone on vacation and I figured it was a good time to get one :-). I bough it used off of my brothers friend and proceeded to bring it up to speed by putting on new body parts so it was practially new when I was done. My second road bike was bought in college. It was a Honda 919 in the flat black "Asphalt" color they came out with. The bike was and currently is my most favorite bike even though I sold it a while ago. If I had a million dollars to spend on a bike, I'd probably still go back to that bike. One of the best riding and most fun bikes I've ever had the pleasure of riding and although I only had a few myself, I've ridden just about everything.
The Superhawk is my latest venture. I love the bike, its simplicity and its enduring cool look. Probably a keeper but I've yet to make it my own.
In 1963 I got my first bike, a 1953 165cc Harley. I missed four years, one year while in Nam and three years after a divorce. That’s forty seven years minus four. I’ve had more bikes than I can remember, mostly Honda's. I currently have 1965 Honda 305 Dream, 1966 Honda 160 Dream, 1965 Honda 50 Dream Sport and a 2004 Kawasaki Nomad. It’s all good. As they say, ride em don’t hide em.
