hey everyone, im new here and it is my honor to now own and restore this classic.

i found this forum browsing for answers and decided to start a thread for myself. ive been taking shitty iphone pictures for now, maybe ill grab my nice camera for future posts, maybe not...

i got a 67 superhawk with about 7.5k miles on it off of ebay awhile back that seems to have been garaged up in Oregon since the early 90's. frame # CB771054620 and engine # CB77E1054340. rust in the gas tank pretty much confirmed this. found a rust free tank in great shape on ebay for 120 bones that can be seen below in the off-silver.

this is my second motorcycle and it is getting torn down for a top end job and cosmetic restoration for the winter due to low left side compression of 85 and a smoking right side under load with compression of 135. after inspecting the cylinder walls on the left side, 2 scratches explain the low compression rating. that along with old carbon deposits on the valves make it run a little strange.

i have the honda shop manual, clymers and both bill silver manuals. all have been tremendously helpful so far, but i have a few questions for the native honda experts.

where is the best place to get honing/boring done in the San Francisco bay area? ive heard many machine shops don't accommodate smaller size boring like this.

what is the best way to get the rubber rear suspension bushings out of the swingarm?

are there any sources left for a camchain with the clip style masterlink? or does everyone recommend those soft link types? id love to use one with a clip to make inspecting the top end a snap, but if its gonna eff up my engine, id like to know about it.

also, anything that seems pertinent id love to hear!

I'm restoring a dutch cb72 at the same time :)

what is the best way to get the rubber rear suspension bushings out of the swingarm?

I tried to push out the whole thing with a hydraulic press but that didn't worked out well because the exterior ring is very small. So i pushed out the center, cut away the rubber and then took a blade from an iron saw and sawed in half the outer ring. Complicated but it worked ;)

Welcome to the Forum! Great looking bike you have there. The seat you have on the bike is worth a packet if it's original.

When you get time, please put your location in your forum profile. It's pretty obvious from your text but it helps folks to decide whether they are near neighbors who can offer real, physical help.

Your mufflers are interesting. They look like they are from a CB250/350 and go well with the look of the bike.

You can still get the split link from Honda. I get mine from David Silver spares in the UK but they only work with certain cam chains I think. You just have to check the pin diameter.

Sounds like you have made some sensible purchases of documentation. There is a wealth of information here if you make intelligent use of the search function. Remember to use the 'search all items" button and that will flush out most things.

thanks for the warm welcome! ive updated my location as requested!

the seat is original from the looks of it, but just a touch dried out and the foam underneath is stiff. still, not bad from being from 67... it has seen better days though. i hesitate to get it reupholstered because i know no one will be able to do it like stock.

as for the mufflers, im not really sure what they are. like i said earlier this is only my second motorcycle and im still a total newb at all this vintage honda stuff. however they do look very similar to these...

Yes, welcome. Very nice find you have there. Nice shop, too! I envy your checkerboard floor. Always wanted a shop with that floor.

Judging by the shop, I'd say that bike is in good hands. Looking forward to the finished product.

Those mufflers look like they have vertical seams in them. That would make me think stock Honda as well, just not stock CB77.

Are the mufflers on it hollow megs, or do they have baffles? I use either EDCO in Petaluma, or cheaper and faster Novato Machine shop for boring. Bruce at Best Machine in San Rafael has done a dozen heads for me, and knows them well. PM me if you want contact info for any of those references. I have removed the bushings with a couple of sockets and a vice. Patience, and a really nominally smaller socket are important! I use these cam chains, they take weeks to arrive, but they do use a clip type link. I have a couple in stock if you need one right away.
