Hi folks acouple of years ago I was about to start restoring my ex racing cb72. Unfortunately a sking accident, a golfing accident, my daughters rather expensive wedding and the a cardiac arrest cased the project to be abandoned. I am now back to good health (or as good as its likely to be) and inspired by G-Man's project have revived the idea. Ive had a workshop built at the bottom of the garden and have started. I will try to post my progress which is likely to be slow. Thanks to george for the barrel when I first started Ive collected a fair few bits as I also want to rebuild the race bike.

Welcome! Great to have another Englishman tackling a CB72. Building the bike will be great therapy after the troubles you've been through. When you get a chance let us know the numbers for your bike as they changed very quickly in 1961. Alan's and my bike are less than 50 numbers apart but some of the details are different. It's a real minefield compared with the later CBs.

Thanks for the kind words the numbers of my bike are 11009 & 111003 just outside the first 1000, but a very closely matched pair. I will get a fliker account and post pictures as soon as I can.

Thanks for the numbers. Just a few more on than mine which has 969 for both engine and frame. Do you know what colour it was originally? There seem to be a lot of blue ones at that time.

Idont know the original colour, but I think it was black when I bought it in 1965, but it seems to have been all three colours at various times The log books for bikes never seemed to show the colour. The bike spent all its life on the track apart from a few months when I rode it to work as the solitary stamp in the log book shows.

That's interesting. My bike didn't get registered until January '62.
