CL77 project

Post by zeerx » Wed Dec 04, 2013 11:30 am

Moved this over form another thread.

Bike is mostly apart. The photos are the day I bought it and how it is now. Just waiting for a decent day to take it to the car wash. I spray and scrub it with degreaser and hit it with the high pressure wash. The dirt in all the oil leaks have turned to sludge. I'll make some covers for the intake and exhaust. No surprises on disassembly....everything came apart ok....no stripped or broken screws or bolts. It looks like the engine hasn't been opened up since new. There are no tool marks on any of the cap nuts or top end screws. Can't wait to get inside.

It sounds like it has good bones! That's a great start, have fun with it!

I pulled the stator out because it was pretty oily and dirty. Would there be a problem hitting it with some carb cleaner and hoseing it off? Not high pressure just the garden type hose.

It won't bother it at all. You can let it air dry or hit it with some compressed air to blow out the water.

Here is a photo of the cam chain tensioner. As you can see the adjuster is completely inside the holder. Should it be sticking out a little if properly adjusted? If not I'm probably ok. If it should then the PO adjusted a damaged adjuster and something is broken inside (I'm not ready to open the engine just yet). Whadyathink?

Wow. That's got to come out. The roller is probably worn out, and I'd be very suspicious of the cam chain, as well. I'd plan on replacing both.

As you have the 1967 issue this is normal.
The answer of the roller is yet to be looked at. ........lm
