Loose sleeves do not transfer heat away to the barrel properly and this may be a contributing factor to your seizure. They should be mated tightly together when both are at the same temperature.

You need to find out whether your liners are undersize or if the barrel is oversize in order to come up with a solution. Either way, what you have at the moment, although pretty, is not a workable solution. Loctite is a possibility but this will also inhibit heat transfer if the clearance is large.

LM may have some experience with situations like this but I would avoid assembling the engine with the barrel in this condition. It's strange that the machinist did not mention it.

No, the machinist said nothing about it. I'll talk to LM and see what he thinks. From what I'm hearing, it's a cause for concern, for sure.

I do have another barrel, one that I acquired so long ago I've forgotten where it came from. The liners are pretty rusty, and I'd likely have to have it bored. It's dirty and ratty looking, but it would clean up. If need be, I'll use it.

Put the spare cylinder in the oven at 250 degrees, and the liners will fall out. You can do that with the old cylinder as well. Put the good liners in the freezer for a few hours. reheat the nice cylinder, and drop the frozen liners in. Let it all coll, and see if they are a better fit.

You can try a hobby shop for replacement tubing for the petcock, tay usually have a pretty good assortment. A pipe cleaner, or safety wire through all orfices should clean it out. if they're bad, I will bead blas all passages to remove all corrosion.

Thanks, Davo. I did some inspecting of the "other" barrel today. Liners are okay, no gouges. I think I can secure the original liners in the original barrel. I'll try that first.
