Castle Chrome Plating in the UK

Post by Steverino » Thu Mar 19, 2015 1:58 am

I received a rough estimate of 80 pounds per rim and 100 pounds per muff plus VAT (?) and postage. It will take me a while to do the math on this but even with the postage it has to be a lot cheaper than 375US per muff and 275US per rim my guy wants.

VAT ~ Value Added Tax, like your purchase tax but at a nasty 20% often gets added to shipping too, so beware....

Thanks G Man
I just received a note from David Silver saying my rim/spokes have been shipped, so half my rechrome problem has been taken care of. When I checked my order a few days ago it was marked as backordered. Over here back ordered usually means months of waiting for parts that might never arrive. DS explains, on their order page, backorder can simply mean part of the order is in the UK and he draws on his stock from both countries. I don't know how he can afford to do that with the paltry amount he charged for shipping. (17USD)
As far as the muffs. I've decided to go with Overlander. I really like the idea of putting a set of new stainless oem style mufflers on this bike. And, kind of a bonus, I will still have my originals for a possible second project some day. Same goes for my rims.

Steve

I think that DSS is shipping piles of stuff back and forth across the Atlantic weekly so he probably gets bulk shipping.

Good luck with the Overlanders. Those spare mufflers are a whole new project in the making..... :-)

Tank Side Cover Search Completed

Post by Steverino » Tue Mar 24, 2015 4:01 am

I found an NOS right tank cover on eBay. I don't see these come up very often so I bid silly high for it. I was lucky enough to buy a freshly rechromed left side off a wrecked bike just a week or two ago for only ten dollars. If I combine what I paid for both, it comes out to about 55 a piece, which is fair. Yea, right. I got a good deal on the left side and I paid way too much for the right side.

Steve

As Tim pointed out to me last week. "All it takes is money"..... :-)

I did something similar. I was lucky enough to "win" a NOS CYB77 rear fender from David Silver. It was pretty much the last unobtanium part for the project I have been looking for so I am happy(ish).

$55 each for a pair of nice tank panels is a steal..... I have had some good success recently in repairing small dents in eBay finds and getting them re-chromed. Probably cost me double what you paid in the end.
